Ten minutes to Liberty University, The University of Lynchburg, fifteen minutes to historic downtown Lynchburg, the Lynchburg Hillcats stadium, close to numerous historic sites, outdoor activities and hiking trails. Just a short drive to Appomattox, the Civil War Museum and other attractions. Take advantage of and dining and shopping nearby!

- Elite Fitness is our favorite gym! Located 3.4 miles away on Leesburg Rd. You can buy a pass for the week for $30. They have great equipment and are generally not crowded. Visit their website here: https://www.elitefitness247.com/
- Planet Fitness is another good option located at 3405 Candler's Mountain Rd. in River Ridge Mall. Buy a guest pass for $20 for 24 hours. They also have great equipment and do not get too busy.
- Another great and free option is for some incline cardo is hiking Candler's Mountain to the LU Monogram! Park near the Snowflex and follow the road to the left of Snowflex. Its a little over a mile down and back.

- Liberty’s Snowflex Mountain (snowboard and ski year round).

- Historic downtown: (we discover new favorites with every trip), Starr Brewery on Main St. for awesome microbrew beer, Bootleggers for burgers/handhelds, casual bar and great patio seating overlooking the river, Water Dog for casual bar, seafood, burgers, sandwiches and salads with great outdoor setting, Glasshouse for tapas (you can make this a meal) cocktails and many times live outdoor entertainment, Crisp for great salads and wraps (also a location on Church St.), My Duke's Diner for fabulous brunch, specialty coffee and cocktails, No 7 Rooftop Bar for drinks and food options overlooking the river.
- Yamada Japanese BBQ is close to our home on Gristmill in Forest. They have an all you can eat option for $40/per person (college students like to take home leftovers!) or a vast assortment of menu options some of which are fun to cook yourselves at the table!
- La Carreta authentic Mexican and Tequila bar with three locations on Langhorne, Simons Run and Timberlake. Love their fajitas and margaritas!
- Muse Coffee Shop on Enterprise near Cornerstone has great specialty coffee drinks, iced tea, breakfast pasties and other food items. Their Avocado toast is a favorite!
- Mission Coffee house is another great option in Cornerstone with food and a little more seating than Muse.
- Market at Main Wards on Wards Rd is great for breakfast/brunch. Gets crowded but they move everyone through quickly. Great food and service!
- The Fresh Market on Old Forest is just a few minutes away if you prefer to cook at home. We are obsessed with this upscale grocery chain that offers and old world feel with fine wines, local produce, prepared foods and delicious sweet treats from their bakery.
- Health Nut grocery and Millie's Café is Wyndhurst is a wonderful option for healthy foods and supplements.
- Mr. Goodies has two locations for delicious homemade ice cream ad soft serve. They have weekly flavors. Klines is another fabulous option!
- Sourdough Pizza, is close to 7 Hills Haven located on Gables in Forest, VA offers handmade pizzas built to order using fresh and sometimes locally sourced ingredients.
- Kroger, Walmart, Target and Food Lion are also a short drive.
